Dr. Mary McDaniel is a Medical Director at Intrinsik Ltd., whose primary focus is environmental health assessment, risk communication, risk management, crisis response, and occupational and environmental medicine.  She assists clients with strategic planning, environmental health evaluations, and regulatory assessments to mitigate potential hazards while responding to community, employee, and agency concerns.

Dr. McDaniel has been involved in planning, facilitating, and serving as a health expert at public meetings throughout the United States, where she seeks to integrate the expertise of health agencies, elected officials, industry, and community members to enhance the communication and decision making process.  She has developed risk communication and crisis communication strategies in the United States and overseas and industry and community involvement programs in a variety of settings ranging from mining operations to native communities.

Experience Highlights

  • Conducted more than 100 risk communication training sessions for industrial facilities and agencies in the United States, Canada, and overseas locations including Southeast Asia, Western Europe, South America.
  • Assisted the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in developing a community and stakeholder engagement program for the Natural Resource Damage Assessment Process following the Deep Water Horizon Spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Served as spokesperson to national media following chemical release from a northern California refinery. Negotiated key health provisions of Good Neighbor contract with community.
  • Established and provided oversight of a community health clinic which provided medical care to more than 1200 people following an accidental petrochemical release.
  • Provided environmental health expertise to hundreds of residents displaced by the largest methane leak in United States history.
