Dr. Faiza Waheed is an Environmental Health Scientist, Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Lead at Intrinsik Corp. She specializes in the use of the HIA framework to assess the potential positive and negative impacts of major infrastructure and resource development projects on health. Dr. Waheed completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, in HIA, where she conducted research on applying the HIA framework to transportation and other major infrastructure projects. Dr. Waheed is experienced in conducting engagement and consultation for major projects, using surveys, focus groups, interviews, workshops, etc. She also has experience conducting scoping workshops as part of the HIA process.

Apart from her HIA work, Dr. Waheed also leads Climate Change and Health Vulnerability Assessments, Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments for contaminated sites in Ontario and Canada, systematic literature reviews, and Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Management Plans.

  • Developed guidance documents for government agencies for implementing HIA and HIA-like frameworks in provincial and federal Environmental Assessments and Impact Assessments, respectively.

  • Conducts HIAs and Supplementary Health Reviews as part of provincial Environmental Assessments in Ontario

  • Co-Chair of the Built Environment Working Group of the Ontario Public Health Association
  • Delivers lectures on HIA to university and college students
